胆固醇 is a waxy substance that’s made by the body 和 found in some animal-based foods. Blood cholesterol levels describe a group of fats also known as lipoproteins, 或脂质, 包括HDL-C, or “好”的胆固醇 LDL-C或 “有害的”胆固醇. 胆固醇 is important to overall health, but when LDL-C levels are too high, it can cause narrowed or blocked arteries. 不幸的是, people with diabetes are more prone to having high cholesterol, which can cause cardiovascular disease (CVD). 通过采取步骤 管理胆固醇, you can reduce your chance of CVD 和 premature death.

Your health care professional will do a blood test to measure your lipid levels. It measures several types of fat in the blood.

  • Low-density-lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol = “bad” cholesterol
A high LDL-C level is linked to a higher risk for CVD. 然而, your LDL number should not be the main factor in guiding treatment to prevent heart attack 和 stroke. For people taking statins, it’s important to work with your health care team to manage your LDL. A diet high in saturated 和 trans fats can raise your LDL cholesterol.

  • High-density-lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol = “good” cholesterol
With HDL-C, higher levels are associated with a lower risk for CVD. Low HDL cholesterol puts you at higher risk for heart disease. People with high blood triglycerides usually have lower HDL cholesterol. 因素包括遗传, Type 2 diabetes 和 certain drugs, such as beta-blockers 和 anabolic steroids, also lower HDL cholesterol levels. Smoking, being overweight 和 being sedentary can also reduce HDL cholesterol.

甘油三酸酯 are the most common type of fat in the body. Normal triglyceride levels vary by age 和 sex. A high triglyceride level combined with low HDL cholesterol or high LDL cholesterol is linked with, the buildup of fatty deposits in artery walls that increases the risk for heart attack, peripheral artery disease 和 stroke.

How does diabetes affect cholesterol?

糖尿病 tends to lower “good” cholesterol levels 和 raise triglycerides 和 “bad” cholesterol levels, which increases the risk for heart disease 和 stroke.

Diabetic dyslipidemia means your lipid profile is going in the wrong direction. It's a combination that puts people at risk for premature

Studies show a link between insulin resistance, which is a precursor to Type 2 diabetes, These conditions can develop even before diabetes is diagnosed.

学习如何 prevent 和 treat abnormal cholesterol levels is an important step in maintaining optimum health.
